After a false start on May 4, today I attended my appointment at Dream Homes, the homelessness-prevention association thing. It turns out that I really needn’t have bothered, as they can’t presently help me.
The problem is that I have no income. Sounds stupid, but it makes sense: The programs generally involve paying a percentage of the rent that’s owed, on condition that the landlord is happy to accept a proposed repayment schedule for the remainder. This is understandable, but because of no income, no repayment schedule is possible (mainly because “sometime before Hell freezes over” isn’t an acceptable deadline, to the best of my knowledge).
So if I find a job before I’m served with a Summons to Appear – and there’s no knowing when that will happen, because every landlord is different – then it’s potentially all well and good. If I don’t… well, Dream Homes can let me know where the homeless shelters are in Danbury. Ho hum.

Also, I was rather surprised to find that I still have Internet at the moment. I have no idea why I do; after all, I’m two months behind on payments (but when I was a month behind, I was still able to keep paying it, so there was something going to AT&T). I guess it’ll just be a case of taking it a day at a time – which makes it rather wearing for Kristal and I because, in a manner of speaking, I’m on borrowed time with my connection.
